I stood for Horizons Regional Council because I love Whanganui and New Zealand and want to see them thrive.  I believe in environmental, economic and social values underpinning good decision-making and want to make a difference as a regional councillor.

I have diverse and relevant experience working at senior levels in the public, private, charitable and iwi sectors in Australia and NZ, as a volunteer, and now having served three years as a councillor. Educated at Whanganui Girls' College, I have a science degree from Massey University and am the mother of two boys.

My priorities:

  • River health: putting the health of our waterways first - there is no life without water

  • Local jobs: influencing the buying power of the council to help local businesses thrive

  • Big picture: ensuring we think long-term for our children when making decisions about our region

What do I offer?

  • 24+ years of experience as a manager of people, issues, partnerships and programmes, in the public, private and charitable sectors, working closely with businesses, Iwi and communities, and established a charitable startup growing social enterprise across the wider Whanganui region with a fantastic group of trustees

  • Experience across a range of sectors relevant to regional council, from road construction, engineering and waste water management to kiwi conservation, environmental education and national park management, to growing the social enterprise sector and partnering with corporate businesses, and working for iwi providing environmental support

  • First-hand experience of the value of unpaid work as a mum and volunteer, including volunteering at Plunket, school basketball coach, literacy tutor, hospice biographer, crew on Spirit of Adventure tall ships, and strong community connections - my latest role as a trustee on Bushy Park Trust

  • Deep understanding of sustainable development and environmental management from a variety of perspectives - as a Department of Conservation manager, as a trustee on conservation-business partnerships, as a project manager assessing environmental impacts in development proposals, working as an environmental advisor to iwi (Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi), and as a corporate employee managing donations to charities

  • A commitment to principled and respectful engagement, to working constructively across the council team and across the region, and to assertively standing up for Whanganui and protecting what makes this place special
